Embrace The Suck is book 8 in the OPS Protector Romance series and should be read in order.

I should have just stayed home.

I thought I could get away and relax.
But that was scrapped the first day when Dash and FNG followed me on vacation.
It was supposed to be a trip to reset my brain.
To get away from all the women flooding work, desperate to be involved and blow stuff up, throw knives, and eat shawarma with the resident psychopath.

But they weren’t the worst part of the trip.

No, that would be the woman that shouldn’t have ever stepped foot in a desert.
Whining and complaining were not supposed to happen on this trip.
But it did.
I should not have had to fight off a rabbit in a yurt.
But I did.
And that bighorn sheep…

But that was only the beginning of the worst vacation known to man.
Then there were bullets, enemies coming from all directions, and the sexiest, most annoying woman directly in the center of it.
And I had to protect her.

They say vacation is fun.
They’ve never been on one with her.

I’m a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, “No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book.” I didn’t think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn’t already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven’t been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Between reading, writing, and taking care of three small kids, my days are quite full.

The last person I ever expected as my assignment is Dean Kraygen. Middleweight Champion of the World and Sexiest Man Alive.

He thinks I was hired to be his fake girlfriend. What Dean doesn’t know is I’m to gather intel and protect him from someone who has been making threats to distract him from winning his last fight.

Sure, any woman would kill to be in my shoes. But I don’t like him. I loathe his kind and his world all because of my past.

But he got to me. Little by little, the walls I built start to crumble.

What was supposed to be a facade, has become all too real, and I have no choice but to resist him, at all costs, or I will be destroyed for good.

Resist is the first book in The Broken & Beautiful Series and an extension of The Broken Hero Series. Resist is also a crossover from Till I Found You and Distracted and features the hero and heroines you’ve gotten to know and love..

About Michelle Fernandez:

Michelle Fernandez lives in Southern California with her husband, children, and two pups. When she’s not writing, she’s laughing it up with friends and family or simply relaxing!

Contemporary Romance, Romance Suspense and Military Romance are her most favorite genres, and loves happily ever afters… who doesn’t? Which is why she started writing in the first place. It started as a hobby. One chapter turned into ten, then a novel was born.

Till I Found You is her first novel. The damsel heroine and the alpha gentleman hero are whom she loves to write about. Making up worlds and characters for readers to fall in love with, is the most rewarding for her.

She hopes that her words give the reader all the ‘feels’ as it does for her when she writes about them and makes them as authentic as she possibly can.

I REQUIRE INTENSE SUPERVISION.

That’s what they say about me. In fact, it became my nickname—IRIS.
Yes, I like to blow stuff up.
Yes, it’s more exciting than dismantling a bomb.
Is it my fault I have a thirst for exhilarating work?

So, I went on this job that was less than thrilling.
My team was supposed to solve a series of murders, but that’s not really my thing.
And the worst part was keeping an eye on this woman.

Jane Layne. Shayla Jacque. Detective Jane Blackthorne… Blackwood?

Who has that many names?
As a mystery writer with a flare for the dramatic, she’s determined to solve the murder cases based on her very own books.
She’s smart as a whip and entertaining to be around. But there’s one thing I can’t stand.
Her fascination with her neighbor.

Alexander Pierce.

He’s a smarmy lawyer who has her wrapped around his little finger.
And I bet that’s larger than what he boasts down below.
Between the backhanded compliments and those pretentious suits, I’m not sure what she sees in him.
And don’t get me started on her informant. Tall, suave…a version of me, if I’m being honest.
All these men falling at her feet, and where do I fit into the equation?
Why am I not in her books? Granted, she just met me, but that’s beside the point.
If I want to be the main character in her life, I have to stop playing the supporting friend.

I just hope she doesn’t blow us up first.

“Why is my door gone? What’s going on?”

“We’re replacing it. The one you had could be busted in with a good kick.”

“I didn’t say you could replace my doors!”

“Your garage door is fine, but this one really needs to go. Plus, having a window on the door makes it easier for someone to break in. All you need is a peephole and some cameras mounted strategically outside.”

“I’m sorry…” I waited for him to say his name.

“IRIS.”

I opened my mouth, then shut it. “Really?”

Thumper walked past and slapped him on the shoulder. “It means I require intense supervision.”

“Oh. Well…IRIS, normally people ask before they just start tearing apart another person’s house.”

“It’s about your safety, nothing else.”

“Still, it’s my house. This is a nice neighborhood. I have a standard to keep up in the community.”

“And you’re doing an excellent job with your lawn,” he retorted. “Really, it’s a shining example compared to the other rat holes around here.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, but he didn’t seem fazed in the least.

“Are you done upstairs?”

I spun around, startled by having so many men in the house. “Who are you?”

“New Guy.”

I sighed heavily. “I don’t want to know. Why do you need to be upstairs?”

“To install the cameras and sensors.”

“Where exactly?”

“Oh, on the windows, in the bedroom, and in the bathroom.”

I shook my head, baffled by what I was hearing. “You want to install cameras in my bathroom?”

“Don’t worry, we won’t look at them unless it’s necessary.”

“No! No, no, no! You are not installing cameras in my bathroom or in my bedroom! Have you ever heard of a little thing called privacy?”

“Of course,” he frowned. “But I sort of thought we could bypass that with the threat of your life on the line. I guess if you’re cool with getting murdered in your sleep or in the shower, I won’t argue with that. Of course, it won’t really look good on my job applications. You know, close protection agent allows woman to be murdered because he didn’t install proper security. Not a gleaming example, but I can work with most anything.”

“Fine!” I shouted, just to shut him up. “Just do whatever you have to do.”

“Righty-O.”

I turned back around to yell at IRIS for replacing my door with the hideous monstrosity in front of me when I saw the fourth one taking my shoes from the closet. I ran over and snatched the boot out of his hand. “What are you doing?”

“Installing a tracker.”

“In my shoe?”

He looked at me funny, and then understanding dawned. Good, at least this one was reasonable.

“See, if you were to get kidnapped, they most likely wouldn’t check the lining of your boots for a tracker. Well, the good ones might, but an amateur wouldn’t.”

Then again, maybe he wasn’t reasonable. He took out a knife and started slicing into the seam of my boot.

“You can’t just cut up my shoes. Those are $500 boots!”

He tossed back his head and laughed. “You can’t fool me. Cash’s girl has the same boots. They’re from Target. Besides, I’m an excellent seamstress. You’ll never even know I tore out the seam.”

“Cash?”

“Oh, my boss. By the way, I’m Slider. Nice to meet you.”

I twirled in place, staring at the men tearing apart my house and my shoes, then looked up at the ceiling and screamed. “Do any of you have actual names?”

The banging and overall chatter stopped. Everyone was staring at me like a mad woman, and I probably was. My hair was dripping, I was wearing a robe, and I was on the verge of tears.

Thumper stepped forward. “Um…my real name is Tate.”

I stared at him for a minute before snapping. “I don’t actually care! I just don’t want my house turned upside down!”

“These are all measures to keep you safe. I know the cameras feel intrusive, but it’s how we know everything that goes on in this house.”

“By putting a tracker in my boot?”

“Well, I know it doesn’t seem like a lot, but we have that covered. We’ll place one on your jacket, along with a camera, so we can always see what you see. Your car will be wired up, and…oh, I have this cool clip that has a camera in it also. That way, when you put it in your hair, we can see what’s going on behind you. Pretty cool, right?”

He was holding something metal in his hands that looked like a cross between a syringe and a gun. “What is that?”

“Oh, this is the tracker we’re going to insert in your arm.”

“How does it work?”

“I put it against your skin and pull the trigger.”

I nodded and grabbed it out of his hand, then pressed it to his arm and pulled the trigger. He winced slightly.

“I actually already have one, but thanks!” he shouted as I stormed off. These men were all insane.

Publisher: Crave Publishing, LLC
Publication Date: Jan. 5th, 2023
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

Blurb:

I’ve always sworn off relationships, in my line of work it’s safer for me not to be distracted. Plus, it doesn’t help that I’ve watched each of my co-workers almost lose the women they love. I’m not going to do that to some poor woman.

Of course, that’s until I do my buddy a favor, picking up his sister and niece from the airport. The moment I lay eyes on Millie Buckley and her daughter Joanna I’m in love. Except I resist the pull that’s there and do all I can to fight it.

Marcus Johnson is the first man that has made my heart race in a long time. He’s sweet, kind, a little rough around the edges, and good to my daughter. I know he feels the same attraction I do, but he doesn’t act on it.

We finally give into our feelings, and it is everything we both could’ve hoped for, but things aren’t that easy for us.

Someone is watching our every move and danger lurks around us just waiting for the opportunity to strike, but Marcus will stop at nothing to protect us. The real question is, who will protect him?

A Midwesterner and self-proclaimed nerd, Evan has been an avid reader most of her life, but five years ago got bit by the writing bug, and it quickly became her addiction, passion and therapy. When the voices in her head give it a rest, she can always be found with her e-reader in her hand. Some of her favorites include, Shayla Black, Jaci Burton, Madeline Sheehan and Jamie Mcguire. Evan finds a lot of her inspiration in music, so if you see her wearing her headphones you know she means business and is in the zone.

During the day Evan works for a large homecare agency and at night she’s superwoman. She’s a wife to Jim and a mom to Ethan and Evan, a cook, a tutor, a friend and a writer. How does she do it? She’ll never tell.

They call me crazy, lethal—psychotic.
I’m all those things and more.
The darkness calls to me, sending me spiraling out of control.
But one woman calms me, bringing me back from the edge when I’m about to lose it.
She’s my savior in every way possible.

But she doesn’t even know I exist. Yet.

I see the way she struggles, trying to maintain her sanity.
I won’t let her go down the same path as my mother.
She won’t be another statistic.
There’s only one thing for me to do—take her.

It’s not kidnapping if you know the person.

She didn’t believe me when I said that.
But I’m not worried about it. She’ll soon find out there are worse things than being hitched to my wagon.
I’ll cherish the ground she walks on for the rest of my life, whether she’s in it or not.

She is my priority, the only reason I continue to live when the darkness takes over.

I’m not naive. Just because I want Anna doesn’t mean I can have her.
I am not a good man, but I am the man for her. I will protect her with my life, slaughter anyone that tries to take her from me.
And when an enemy threat looms, I’ll remove them just like any other baddie.

There is no surviving when The Phantom is calling to me.

Cash ignored me and continued. “Right now, he’s injured and needs rest and a doctor’s supervision. He’s still considered in critical condition. I need a team that can go to him since he can’t be moved.”

“I’m all over that, boss,” I said enthusiastically. “Who’s with me?”

No one responded and Cash looked pleadingly at all of them. “Really, anyone that’s willing will get overtime.”

“Boss, we all know what we signed up for when we took this job,” IRIS said, “but this is just insanity.”

“You blow shit up for a living,” Lock snorted.

“Yeah, but on my terms. This guy is an assassin. I don’t need to wake up with a knife in my back, or worse, have him bring heat down on us from past jobs.”

I stood this time, thinking someone would join me. “Again, I’m all over this.”

“He’s psychotic,” Cash sighed.

“I’m psychotic.”

“He doesn’t play well with others.”

I slapped my hands against my chest and grinned. “Neither do I!”

“It’s a long job. Keeping him alive is only phase one of the job.”

“Phase me in,” I smirked.

Cash looked around. “I really need a three man team on this. Three people that can work well together,” he emphasized.

“Boss,” I chuckled, glancing around the room at the others. “I’m sort of getting the feeling you don’t want me on this job.”

“What about you, Jack? This is the sort of job your team takes.”

I stood there a little pissed that he was talking around me as if I wasn’t here, like I wasn’t volunteering to take a job that everyone else clearly wasn’t on board with.

“Ya know, we do black ops,” Jack answered. “This is babysitting.”

I rushed around the table, getting right in Cash’s face. I’d make him send me if it was the last thing I did. “Boss, you know I’m the man for the job. I’m great under pressure and with annoying assholes.”

“Yes, but we’re trying to keep this one alive. If you kill him, that sort of defeats the purpose of the job.”

“Hey, I’m a very likable guy,” I said defensively.

“Yes,” he nodded slowly. “To people that know you.”

“So, send me with…” I glanced around the room, trying to figure out who would best work with me. “Rae and IRIS.”

“No,” Rae stood up. “I’m not going on a long mission with Fox. Not gonna happen.”

“IRIS, you can set explosives all around the house,” I said excitedly. “It’ll be just like old times.”

“Yeah, as fun as it sounds to blow someone up, I’d rather shoot myself than go on a long assignment with an assassin.”

“Seriously?” I asked the whole room incredulously. “Am I the only one that sees the benefit of this? To get inside the mind of a killer and pick his brain apart?”

“We sort of already have that with you,” Slider answered. “I think that’s enough to last a lifetime.”

I am the shadow that moves in the night, the one that has you constantly looking over your shoulder.
I work within the bounds of the law when it suits me, but make one wrong move and I’ll throw the rule book out the window to end you.
My job requires a certain level of deception, an ability to put aside feelings and relationships to get the job done.
I can honestly say there’s not a single person alive I wouldn’t betray for the right reasons.
It’s who I am and I can’t change.
I won’t.
But there’s one woman that threatens to break me.
I knew it the moment I met her four years ago. So young and naive, it’s easy to see how a woman like her could fall for a man like me.
She doesn’t see through the lies and manipulations.
She thinks she knows the man I am, but she only sees what I allow.
I’ve done everything in my power to keep her safe from me, but now I have to do something that could nearly gut me.
I have to betray her.
I know she’ll never forgive me, but this isn’t just about the job.
Someone’s life is at stake, and unfortunately for her, his life is one I can’t allow to slip away.
She’ll never forgive me—that’s if she lives.
And I’ll never forgive myself.
But these defining moments in life are what make us who we are.
I know I’ll always be the man that will get the job done.
No matter the cost.

“Thumper, down!” I shouted, just as I fired a round into his bionic foot, forcing him to his knees as he narrowly avoided a bullet to the head.

“What the fuck? Did you just shoot me, boss?”

“It was your foot or your head,” I retorted, returning my gaze to the tangos still in the building.

“You’re paying for my new foot,” he grumbled, hobbling over to join the rest of his team.

“Send me the bill,” I muttered, already focusing on the remaining tangos.

“Eli, how many more kids need evac?”

The Ditty Boppers had been tasked with slipping in through the basement window and freeing the kids inside. We didn’t have an exact number when we started this mission, so we couldn’t be certain we had all the manpower or transportation needed.

“Boss, we’ve got a problem,” his voice rang through comms. “We’ve got about twenty that require medevac ASAP.”

“Negative. There aren’t enough birds in the sky.” I switched targets, firing again as I laid out the next part of the plan. “Fox, you copy?”

“You got someone for me to kill, boss?” he said cheerily.

“Move to extraction point B. Kid gloves, Fox.”

“Boss,” he groaned.

“Dash, take control. Rae, make sure Fox doesn’t fuck this up.”

She sighed heavily as I heard her on the move. “When is that not my job?”

I grinned and moved to the next target. I couldn’t see Jack anymore, or the rest of his team. With any luck, they made it out of the building and were aiding in the rescue of the kids.

“Boss, we’ve got movement to the south headed your way.”

“How far out?”

“Two minutes. Coming in hot, boss.”

“Do you have the shot?”

“Negative. Too much tree cover.”

I shifted to my next target and took aim. “And you didn’t see them? Were you too busy vomiting?”

“I told you I don’t like flying,” he snapped. “I would move if I were you.”

“One more minute,” I said, scoping out my next target.

“Boss, you really need to—”

But I tuned him out and returned my attention to the remaining tangos still threatening to destroy our operation. One by one, I picked them off, missing one by just an inch and alerting him to my location. He quickly ducked and ran for cover, hiding just a few feet from the entrance to the basement. If he made it down there, my men might be injured, along with those kids. Men did stupid shit when they were cornered.

“Boss!” Scottie was yelling in my ear, but I ignored him and kept my focus.

“Come on, you fucker,” I whispered, eyeing the man in my scope. I needed him to move just a little to the right.

“Thirty seconds!” Scottie warned.

The man moved and I took the shot, sending the bullet right through his skull. I watched as his head snapped back and he crumpled to the ground. Removing Sally 2 from my stand, I shoved my rifle in my bag and tossed it over my shoulder, abandoning the stand to whoever came through here. Taking off through the trees, I hauled ass toward the extraction point, but quickly realized I was already too late.

The tangos on my ass were closing in quick, and heading to the extraction point would only put more lives in danger. I made a snap decision and bolted to the left, making sure to leave an obvious path in my wake. Making enough noise to raise the dead, I grinned when I heard them following.

“Lock, I’ve got tangos on my ass. I’m leading them away. It should buy you enough time to get out.”

“Negative, boss. We’ve got too many injured.”

“How much time do you need?”

“Boss, I don’t like where you’re going with this.”

As I ran through the trees, I knew it didn’t really matter if he liked it or not. I had boxed myself in, and there was no way I was getting out of this on my own. But I could lay down fire and draw their attention from what was going on at the warehouse.

“I’ll distract them. When you’re out, I’ll haul ass to the third extraction point.”

“You’ll never make it there,” he warned.

I grinned, even though he couldn’t see. “Watch me.”

Mason

Things were finally going right for Mason Kincaid—until everything went sideways when his father informed him he was going to stop his cancer treatments. Knocked off balance by that curveball, Mason might have said something impulsive, and now he’s in hot water.

He’s engaged. His girl just doesn’t know it…yet.

But as it turns out, that might be the least of his problems. He pissed off the wrong people and finds himself on the wrong side of the law, all while trying to deal with a threat to his girl, which is quickly spinning out of control.

Josephine

Josephine Maxwell is used to being in the spotlight, having one of the most popular gaming channels on YouTube. So when a package shows up with a cryptic note inside, she assumes it’s a joke.

Only it doesn’t end with a package. Gifts start to arrive for her at her sorority house with threatening notes, followed by emails and texts from an unknown and increasingly frightening caller.

What she assumed was a twisted prank turns potentially deadly for her and Mason, and the clock is quickly winding down on their chances for survival.

Jo’s had enough challenges in her life, and now she must fight to stay alive while the Kincaids rush to identify the threat and find her before it’s too late.

So who am I?

Well, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn’t love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Now, I live in a small town in West Virginia where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce…lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

“Watch me.”
