SPOTLIGHT ON PEBBLES LACASSE
I had an opportunity to send a few questions the way of Pebbles Lacasse and hope you enjoy getting to know her as I did.
How long have you been a published author?
My first book released under a different penname in 2001. It was a fantasy series for teens and older. Also, under that penname, I wrote a murder mystery for adults. While I was working on these books, I found myself writing sexy scenes not suited for that age group. After a while, those genres bored me, and I gave up on my creative edge for a few years.
In 2017, my creativeness urged me to write an erotic romance novel. Well, it tickled me just right, so that genre is where I choose to stay.
Do you write in other sub-genres other than Erotic/BDSM?
BDSM and romance hold my interest. My novels always contain a plot where romance builds, often between unlikely couples. Suspense, mystery, second-chances, for example, keep the story flowing and hold the reader’s attention.
What is your favourite genre to read?
Many authors say they don’t enjoy reading the genre they write, but I love it. For me, it’s more research than for enjoyment, although I often fall victim to the plot and cry when the characters suffer. My goal when reading is to see if the stories resemble mine. I’d rather write novels different from others. I’ll confess that I love reading the spicy sex scenes.
Do you prefer ebook, paperback, or audio?
Ebook is the route I often go, only for the convenience of it. When I’m cleaning or making promotional pics or book covers, with my earbuds in, I let my phone read to me. It sounds a bit computer’ish, but it works for me. Paperbacks are preferred. The only problem in where to store them afterward. They have to go at some point, and it breaks my heart to see them leave. Audiobooks aren’t my preference. I’m sure they would sound much better than my phone’s attempt at storytelling, but I haven’t quite hopped on that wagon just yet.
What is your favourite hobby?
The hobby that relaxes me the most is watching movies while I assemble jigsaw puzzles on my computer. There are thousands of completed puzzles on the app I use. Other than that, it’s the usual; family, animals, and friends.
Traditional or Indie publishing?
A small publishing company picked up my first five erotic books. The books had a great storyline, but they needed polishing, and I knew it. Since they weren’t pushing the books toward sales, or promoting as much as they were needing, I reclaimed them. Meanwhile, I continued to write, professionally edit, and self-publish them. They did better than the others ever did income wise.
The five books I reclaimed have since been refined, edited, and will be self-published. The My JoeSmith two-book series was massive, so I broke it down into four books. It’s a much better story now. The other three reclaimed books where polished and will be re-released soon.
Favourite author?
Oh, boy! That’s an impossible question to answer because there are so many amazing authors I’ve read. Names usually elude me, as my memory tests my patience more than I care to admit. Some that come to mind would be LaSasha Flame, AW Clark, Scarlett St. Clair, Katina J. Rose, Lisabet Sarai… I just drew a blank and can’t think of any others.
Favourite movie?
My favourite movie changes with my mood. I love What Dreams May Come, The Proposal, Deadpool, and so many more. My favourite television show is Gilmore Girls. I’ve watched it on Netflix from beginning to end at least four times. I enjoy having it on in the background when I’m flying around on my social media. They crack me up!
Favourite book?
Just like with movies, my favourite book changes with my mood. The book I just finished is called Twigs in the Sand and it’s written by AW Clark. That man can write a story! From the first few chapters until the end, the words held me hostage and left me with a feel-good vibe. It’s sad, and yet happy at the same time. Before that I read Katina J. Rose’s Managing Ryan; an exceptional story as well.
Advice you would give someone sitting on the fence, debating whether to write the story in their head?
If someone is considering writing a story but is afraid to, for whatever reason, my advice would be to just do it. Find a quiet space, open your laptop, and begin. Trust me, the first copy will be crap. Every author will tell you their initial copy of every book they’ve written was not great. But get it out of your head anyway. When you’re finished with it, put it aside for a week while you celebrate that you just wrote a book! When you go back through it, polish it and make it a gem before you hand it to a professional editor. Your words will be so much better when edited by a qualified professional. Don’t just pop it on Amazon unedited and hope for the best. I did that and regret it to this day. How many readers did I lose because they think I still don’t edit my books?
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment, I spend my days prepping for releases, making promos, arranging ARCs, and formatting because the My JoeSmith series is releasing with a quick release; one book per month until the fourth is live on December 1, 2022. When I tire of all that and need to escape, there’s a story about a mysterious man who rescues a woman and they fall in love despite being so total opposites.
What do you have coming in the near future?
Soon, after the My JoeSmith series has fully released, Goldilocks and The Bear Brothers, book four will release early 2023. It’s almost ready to go, aside from editing. That’s going to be a hot new release!
